For navigation and craft attitude awareness the SB-8 will be fitted with a ‘Skyview Integrated Glass Cockpit’ system comprising of two SV-D1000’s and associated software.
There are two reasons why we will have two visual display units; we can comfortably fit them into the instrument consol and redundancy. Up to four displays can be networked together and one display unit can show everything namely the Primary Flight Display (PFD), Moving Map or Chart Plotter, Engine Monitoring and Radar. However, adding a second display allows for both to be dedicated to specific purposes. For example, the right display could show the PFD and Radar while the left could show the Chart Plotter and Engine Monitor. In the unlikely event of a display failure, the remaining display can still show all the data.
As the evolution of GPS navigation equipment and systems is moving at such an unprecedented rate a clear decision on precisely which units will be most suitable for the operational role of the Seabus will be made on the commencement of construction of the commercial prototype or the customers option.
In the center of the consol will be a Marine Chart Plotter.
